Ahh, summertime. Those magical months when the days are warm and the options are near limitless on what you can do. But, it doesn’t last forever.
So, what can you do to keep from going crazy during the colder months when the majority of people hunker down for the winter? There are actually a few hobbies that can still be enjoyed throughout the coldest times of the year to keep you moving.
Hunting
One of the more popular winter time hobbies, especially in the South, would be hunting. Different animals have different seasons in which hunters are allowed to kill a certain number of each animal. However, there are some animals that can be hunted anytime, as long as the hunter is properly licensed.
Hunting some animals during the colder months is actually key to success of the hunt, depending on the habits of the species being hunted. Hunting laws and which animals can be hunted and when are different from state to state, so you would want to be sure and check your local hunting regulations or the regulations wherever you intended to hunt.
Fishing
Believe it or not, fishing is another hobby that can be enjoyed year round. There is even a monthly fishing box dedicated solely to items and baits that can be used for ice fishing and other cold weather fishing.
If you are a fisherman at your core, there are ways that you can indulge in the sport throughout the year, not just when it’s warm outside. Most water in lakes and rivers will never fully freeze, so you can bet there will still be fish under whatever ice may form, just waiting for you to catch them.
Shooting
We Americans have always had a tangled love affair with guns, but they have always been a major part of our national identity and sense of freedom. So, many people own guns and shoot them for sport and practice.
While shooting can be a dangerous hobby, it is one shared by many millions around the globe. It doesn’t matter if it is cold or not, the bang happens just the same. Safety should always be a priority with any hobby, but especially so with a hobby that involves deadly weapons.
Hiking Or Camping
While many will find it to be too cold, some are willing to brave the elements and venture out into the wilderness even when it is at the coldest. Thanks to more modern camping equipment, it is possible to maintain a warm tent in even subzero temperatures, depending on the type of tent.
Again, this can be very dangerous, especially since any predatory animals in the area that don’t migrate or hibernate will be on the prowl for food during the colder months. But, when the right preparations are made, you can feel safe and sound when out enjoying the beauty of nature in wintertime.
There Is No Reason To Be Stuck Inside
With a variety of activities that can be enjoyed year round, there is no reason to have to be cooped up in your house just because it’s cold outside. Sure, it may be cold, but you can find all sorts of insulated clothing and winter wear, even suits that have battery powered heaters built into them.
If you are looking to get out and do something this winter, you have several options to choose from. Way more than this short list compiles, actually. So, get out there and enjoy the wondrous beauty of nature and make the memories that will last a lifetime.
